Special Announcement Concerning The Future Of Liberal-Truths

With the election of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States it is now time to consider the future of this website.

The idea for this website (and its sister site Conservative-Truths) came out of my disappointment following the 2004 Presidential Election. I was disappointed that conservative politicians and pundits had successfully tarnished the word “liberal”. I wanted to do something that would help change that and a posting by Markos Moulitsas at DailyKos gave me the inspiration. That posting was about how conservatives have higher rates of divorce than liberals. I am a member of the DailyKos and MyDD communities and in late 2004 I asked other community members for technical and subject advice and I received lots of help and suggestions.

On January 3, 2005 the sites went live and I have been posting a new statistical analysis comparing the differences between conservative and liberal presidencies as well as the differences between conservative and liberal states every Monday since then.

I have been simply amazed at the success of these websites. They have performed far beyond my expectations. As of this writing Conservative-Truths has nearly 100,000 unique visitors and Liberal-Truths has nearly 50,000 unique visitors. The success of these sites is in large part due to the several other websites that have linked to my various postings over the past four years. There are two people in particular that these sites owe a great deal of thanks. The first is Carolyn Kay from Make Them Accountable. Carolyn was the first person to link to one of my postings and every few months she would continue to link to one of my postings. She not only posts at her own website, but she also posts at Blah3. The next person that this site owes a great deal of thanks to is Mike Finnigan who runs the Blog Round Up over at Crooks and Liars. Mike first linked to one of my postings in 2006 and the amount of traffic that I received on that day was greater than all of the traffic that I had accumulated throughout all of 2005. Every few months Mike has linked to one of my postings and each time that he did he introduced this site to many new visitors.

However, today will be the last posting for the next few years. Liberal-Truths will be going on hiatus and returning on January 2, 2012. It is going to take a few years for the Census Bureau Statistical Abstracts to register the new President’s policy impacts. In light of this I have decided to make Liberal-Truths a website that only posts new information every week during the Presidential Election year.

I do want to leave you with one more statistical report before I go and I hope to see you again in 2012 when regular posting returns.

Thank you very much for visiting this site.

There Are Still More Divorces In Conservative States Than In Liberal States

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2008 the average rate of Divorces in the United States in 2005 was 3.6 per 1,000 population. 19 out of 31 Conservative States had a higher than average rate of Divorce (61% of Conservative States) versus 3 out of 20 Liberal States that had a higher than average rate of Divorce (15% of Liberal States). The highest rate of Divorce in the country is found in Nevada with 7.7 per 1,000 population. The lowest rate of Divorce in the country is found in the District of Columbia with 2.0 per 1,000 population.
